Studio FB Live Session 024: Continue On

In session 023 I tried my hand at creating by allowing Logic to create a drumbeat for me. It was a lot of fun and ended up coming together very nicely. If you haven’t seen that one yet, I would suggest going and checking it out. It was a lot of fun. This week was all about building on that original idea and I think it took on a life of its own. Check it out.

The Session

The session started out with a few technical difficulties, but I got it going eventually. When I finally got started my first goal was to find that spark, that small idea that would set off the rest of the session. I tried a couple of synth parts but nothing seemed to stick out. Whenever I landed on something I thought would work it ended up falling flat.

After a few failed attempts I decided to go with something that I know and love…the guitar!

That’s when I found the spark I was looking for. After playing around for a little while I landed on some huge rhythm guitar parts that filled out the track very nicely. I doubled the part and spread it wide and I love how big it made it. Pure rock n roll and it gave me an Awolnation vibe. Love it!!

Adding Layers

Once I had the huge guitar laid down I moved on to a higher lead part that I felt would help move the verse alone so that it didn’t get too boring. I tried a handful of ideas but finally landed on one that I loved. I’m always attracted to melodies that repeat themselves. I don’t know why I’ve just always been that kinda player.

When I landed on the high lead part I liked how it stayed consistent over the course of the song. It starts out a little country and then moves into a Smashing Pumpkins vibe in the chorus and it was perfect. So perfect that I can’t wait to hear someone put a killer vocal over the top of it!!

Conclusion

To close us out it’s really cool to see how this idea went from a silly drum look to a full-blown idea. Yes, there is a ton still left to do but the song is there, the outline is done and it’s time to finish it up.

Maybe you have some unfinished ideas. Perhaps you don’t know where to start. I get it, I really do, but it’s time to step into and fight for that spark that turns it all upside down. You got this!! Let’s go…
